There are few happier days for a girl than when one of her best friends ties the knot. We want nothing more than for our girlfriends to be happy, and most of us become so overwhelmed with happiness for them that we cry tears of joy on their big day. Well, I think they're tears of JOY. They are either tears of joy or they're tears of RELEIF knowing all your hard work is done and has paid off!

If you had to ask me which my tears were this past weekend for my dear friend, Wendy, I don't know that I would tell you. No, of course, of course they were tears of happiness. Wendy's (now) husband, Jason, makes her happier than I've ever seen her, and I am thrilled they have decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
As excited as I was for Wendy, however, I am definitely glad the event is over. Don't get me wrong- her wedding was a BLAST! (As evidenced by the picture of my "olive manicure") But, it was a lot of work, too.
The ceremony and the reception took place at Wendy's aunt's house who lives in the Detroit area. Almost everyone came from out of town for the wedding, arriving just one and a half days before the wedding day. There were all kinds of details that needed finishing last minute, so up until picture time- well, even INTO picture time, everyone was scrambling, finishing this and that. One of these "details" was the wedding cake.
That's right, the WEDDING CAKE. Not just decorating it, but baking the entire thing. And we're not talking about a Pilsbury cake mix. Wendy's sister, Emily, flew in from New York with intentions of baking the wedding cake for her big sister. Unfortunately, the cake didn't get started until around 11pm the night before the wedding. I stayed up to assist Emily with the cake that we ended up covering with the crumb layer and calling it a night at 6am, planning to come back to it the following day at 9am to assemble and decorate.
While we didn't get much rest, the cake did get finished (Bet you want to
see a picture, right? Well, you will have to be patient- I will have to dig one up from someone who was smart enough to take one). Everything else got finished to. I'm not sure how, but with the help of Wendy's two fabulous sisters, all of the tiny details were taken care of.
The moral of the story here is: Don't let your sister make your wedding cake the night before your wedding. Well, maybe that's not the moral since the cake did get done in the end and was really delicious! I guess the moral would be: Take pictures of the cake you stayed up so late working on the night before your friend's wedding, so you can add them to your blogpost about what a chaotic event the day leading up to the wedding was :)
Congratulations, Wendy!
